Government Shutdown Update
We know that news of the government shutdown has created uncertainty and concern for many individuals and families. At Liberty First Credit Union, we want you to have clear, reliable information — and to know we’re here to support you.
What You Should Know
- Your deposits are safe. All credit union deposits remain federally insured.
- The NCUA remains open. This independent agency continues to operate, ensuring your deposits are protected.
- Service and federal employees are impacted. Pay is paused during the shutdown.
- Flood insurance is affected. FEMA cannot issue new flood insurance policies while funding is on hold, though valid claims will still be paid from available funds.
- Essential programs continue. Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid funding — and the staff who administer these programs — are not affected by the shutdown.
- Potential Impact to Government-Guaranteed Loan Programs: Some government-backed loan programs, such as FHA, VA, and USDA loans, may be affected. At this time, the extent of the impact is unclear. We are actively monitoring the status of these agencies and will continue to provide updates and services as more information becomes available.
